Let me guess, if you own an android phone, for a notebook app, apart from the default “Keep Notes” app, you have the Evernote. Right?
If you are like me, you also have the “The ColourNote” an awesome yellowish themed, simplistic logo.
All the above are really good but none of them cuts across the board. I actually have all the three and I use them in different scenarios. The Evernote is the most sophisticated though. It has so many features, but we are here to talk about its visuals. Check it out:
The Evernote Logo Design Details
The simple logo has more than meets the eye.
First of all, the elephant in the room. The conspicuous image of the profile of an elephant’s head is not random. It is actually borrowed for the great quality found in the resume of the elephant: memory and intelligence. The elephant is used to show that your ideas are fresh in the memory of the app. And that whatever you jot down is safe.
The top left corner of the elephant’s ear features a turn of the leaf reminiscent of an actually folded notebook.
The colour green depicts freshness and vivacity. We are fond of fresh ideas, aren’t we? But have you ever seen a green elephant? Exactly, it works to make it unique and memorable
The logo oozes style and brandability.
It was redesigned in 2018 and it took 6 weeks to have it as it is by the Evernote design team. It is a perfect mix of style, colour, detail, and meaning as well as being totally flexible in its universal application.
The font used is Publico, a serif typeface that takes many cues from contemporary type design yet still has a timeless feel. It is black to reflect boldness and to act as the perfect contrast to the green flappy elephant.
As you take down your notes and ideas, I hope that this will make you look at it differently.
